It's been a few days since I have added to this journal. Update on the cemetery situation: we did find the grave sites of Terry's grandparents - all four of them - at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Strange that these four people, who started out life from two different environments in two different states, found a resting place just yards away from one another. And all of this because Terry's dad Pete (Cortes Neal Sprankle) left the farm in Pennsylvania to attend Purdue University in Indiana. On his urging, his parents made the move to Lafayette as well. In addition to earning his degree, Pete found his future wife, Mary Louise - and thus the union of the Sprankles and the Coopers.
I believe that Terry had a sense of peace that he had connected with his grandparents, even if it was in this way. That being accomplished, we took off for the next leg of our trip - heading south. Crossing the Ohio River, we entered Kentucky, the Blue Grass State. (Apparently there is a lot of back-and-forth between these parts of Indiana and Kentucky, so much so that we saw signs on shops referring to Kentuckiana!) In any case, I was looking forward to our time in Louisville and had the feeling that we would enter a very special and interesting place and was looking forward to drinking in all that we could in the two plus days that we would be spending there.
How amazing that all four grandparents have found their final resting place so close to each other. That had to be so special for Terry.
ReplyDeleteI know, Claudette. With this whirlwind trip, it seems a long time ago that we were in Indiana! We are traveling and having a really good time.
